Formed in 1974 in Sydney by guitarist Jim Kelly, percussionist Ian Bloxsom, and keyboardist Michael J. Kenny—all former members of the mid-’70s outfit Southern Contemporary Rock Assembly—Crossfire delivers this superb 1980 release. From the urban-slick opener A1, where groovy funk rhythms intertwine with crisp horn and keyboard melodies, to the mellow A3, featuring smooth guitar and sax lines in gentle interplay, and the breezy B4, reminiscent of the Pat Metheny Group, the album radiates top-notch musicianship throughout. A standout work that perfectly captures the sophisticated crossover/fusion sound of the early 1980s.
A1: Bob’s Ya Uncle
A4: Parade
