Dan Siegel
Another Time, Another Place
Pausa Records (US) 1984
PA 7164 (LP)
sleeve : EX-(SRW, some wear on edge and corner, light dirts.)
media : EX+/EX+(some slightly noise.)
An album released in 1984 by Seattle-born American jazz pianist Dan Siegel. Featuring contributions from Pat O’Hearn (bass, synth) and Alex Acuña (percussion), this work foregrounds an electronic, synthesizer-driven sound. Highlights include B2, where razor-sharp acoustic and electronic percussion carve out an angular, ethnic-tinged groove, complemented by softly drifting pad tones in the distance, and B3, a spiritual track built from layers of beautifully transparent synthesizer timbres. A hidden gem of new age jazz, the album presents evocative, almost utopian inner landscapes throughout. It seems to make extensive use of FM synthesis—and this is a particularly fine example of how it can be done.
B2: New Jungle
B3: a Sentimental Memory
