An album recorded in London featuring performances by griots Dembo Konte and Kausu Kuyateh, the traditional storytellers of The Gambia in West Africa. The album showcases the deeply refined folk music of the griots, who play the kora, a traditional Gambian instrument with 21 strings stretched over a long neck and a resonator made from a large calabash. Accompanied by the kora’s warm and rustic tones, the griots recite melodic narratives of historical heroes and their own ancestral lineage, passing down oral traditions through song. This album offers a rich and immersive experience of the griot tradition, with the kora’s delicate yet powerful sound resonating beautifully throughout. A truly uplifting and captivating work.
