Edmund J. Wood
Immanent Domain
Nilva Records (Switzerland) 1985
NQ 3416 (LP)
sleeve : EX(wear on corner.)
media : EX/EX(some slightly noise.)
Despite having performed alongside musicians such as Chico Hamilton, John Hicks, Frank Foster, and Dr. John, American guitarist Edmund J. Wood remains almost entirely unknown. This 1985 release—his only album—came out on Nilva Records, the label run by drummer Alvin Queen and based in Geneva, Switzerland. Though the participating musicians are likewise mostly obscure, the album delivers exceptionally tasteful and inviting performances. Wood’s remarkable technique and talent shine through as he moves effortlessly between aggressive, James Blood Ulmer–like electric guitar work and smooth, expressive acoustic playing.
