Italian trumpeter Enrico Rava, known for his distinctive sound and melodies across a wide range of styles from modal to contemporary and free jazz, has left numerous works on the cutting-edge German jazz labels ECM and JAPO. In 1996, he released an album on vinyl from the Japanese label Venus Records, renowned for high-quality reissues of jazz masterpieces. This album features a one-horn, unconventional sextet with Domenico Caliri (guitar), Roberto Cecchetto (guitar), Giovanni Maier (bass), U.T. Gandhi (drums, percussion), and Richard Galliano (accordion). Recorded in Venice in 1996, the album includes Rava’s original compositions as well as widely-known ballads in Italy. You can enjoy Rava's superb playing as one of Europe's leading lyrical trumpeters, accompanied by the sounds of guitar and accordion. Although Rava never released another album with ECM after a fallout with Manfred Eicher, his journey of lyrical soundscapes continued beyond ECM. Highly recommended. This is a rare vinyl edition available only as this domestic release.
