Released in 1989, this album is by Flora Purim, the Brazilian diva who made her mark on the American jazz/crossover scene, and her husband, percussionist Airto Moreira. The lineup includes guitarist Jose Neto — whose 1986 album Mountains and the Sea was featured in the guidebook obscure sound — along with Marcos Silva, Randy Tico, Michael Shapiro, and others. While the uptempo Brazilian fusion tracks with a strong sense of drive are excellent, the mellow tunes such as A2, A4, and B3, where Flora’s floating, airy vocals truly shine, are especially recommended.
A2: The Hope
A4: Pablo Sereno
