An American pianist, George Cables, known for his work with numerous legendary musicians—including Art Pepper, Freddie Hubbard, and Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers—as well as for leaving behind outstanding solo recordings on labels like Masahiko Yuh’s Why Not, released this leader album in 1985. The album features Joe Farrell (flute), Rufus Reid (bass), Eddie Gladden (drums), Ernie Watts (tenor sax), Tony Dumas (bass), and Peter Erskine (drums). Highlights include the refreshing flute performance by Farrell on track A2 and the tight, funky rhythm section of Dumas and Erskine on A3. Throughout the album, Cables delivers elegant piano solos, and the breezy atmosphere carried within the deeply rooted Black musical spirit results in a superb crossover sound. Highly recommended.
