Original Jazz Classics (US) 1983
OJC-070 (LP)
sleeve : EX(slightly dirts.)
media : EX-(some light noises caused by slightly hairin)
This 1961 album by a sextet led by American composer/pianist George Russell, active since the 1950s in a wide variety of styles from solo to jazz orchestra, features Eric Dolphy (as,bc), Don Ellis (tp), Stephen Swallow (b), Joe Hunt (ds) and Dave Baker (tb). In addition to Russell's original score, Miles Davis' "Nardis" and Thelonious Monk's "Round Midnight" are also featured on this album. The recording was made in 1961, so the music is straight bebop, but B3, a cover of Thelonious Monk's "Round Midnight," shows a glimpse of the avant-garde style that developed after the end of the 1960s, and is a very melancholy and wonderful performance.
A1: Ezz-thetic
B3: ‘Round Midnight
