Gloria Niemann Quintet
Bittersweet
Plainisphare (Switzerland) 1983
PAV 807 (LP)
sleeve : NM(IN SHRINK)

The quintet, led by Swiss jazz singer Gloria Niemann Quintet, released this classic album in 1983 on Plainisphare, the best contemporary jazz label in Switzerland. The quintet features Rene Zedi (vib), Bruno Durring (p), Jurg Salchli (b), and Juan Puigventos (ds). The band plays relatively straight-ahead jazz numbers such as modern, ragtime, and blues, but Gloria Niemann's vocals are wonderful, and the album is full of highlights such as Miles Davis cover A3 and Antonio Carlos Jobim cover B1. This is a great album. In particular, I would like to recommend B2, which is a cover of the famous song written by Michel Legrand for the American movie "The Happy Ending" in 1969 and sung by many singers since then. It is a beautiful and sad ballad number. Too good to be true. Highly recommended.

A3: All Blues
B2: What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life
