A masterpiece released in 1980, Group 87's first album was created by Mark Isham, known for his outstanding works on ECM and Windham Hill, Patrick O’Hearn, who released remarkable albums under Peter Baumann’s New Age label Private Music, and Peter Maunu, who recorded solo works for EMI’s New Age sub-label Narada Mystique. The group only released two albums, and this debut showcases the lush fusion sound characteristic of the era. While all three musicians had a strong jazz background, they leaned heavily into electronics, creating floating electronic music that embodies their New Age influences. Tracks like A3 and B2 evoke the sound of Elements, the New Age jazz unit formed by Pat Metheny Group members Mark Egan and Danny Gottlieb.

A3: Frontiers: 1856
B2: While the City Sleeps
