A very obscure record has just arrived. This 1978 album was released by a quartet consisting of Belgian pianist Michel Herr—known for several outstanding collaborations on Mood Records—and German saxophonist Wolfgang Engstfeld, joined by Belgian drummer Bruno Castellucci and bassist Michel Hatzigeorgiou. It was produced as a library record intended for use in radio, television, and film. The album features a cohesive and exceptionally high-quality production, with refined soundscapes that evoke cinematic scenes. From lyrical contemporary jazz highlighting Herr’s signature bright-toned and delicate melodic work, to deep jazz pieces built on minimal phrases of electric piano and piano, and even fast-paced, funky jazz-rock tracks—each composition shines. Highly recommended across the board.
