Released in 1989 on Splas(H) Records, one of the key labels driving the Italian new jazz movement from the late ’80s onward, this is the second leader album by Swiss jazz trumpeter Hilaria Kramer, known for her work as a member of Claudio Fasoli’s Quartet. Across the album, Kramer unfolds a crisp, electronics-forward crossover jazz sound that remains surprisingly under the radar. Highlights include the highly danceable A3, where a tight groove driven by slap bass and Latin percussion is lifted by a groovy organ line and Kramer’s free-form vocals; the spiritually charged B1, featuring tricksy synthesizer work and soaring trumpet solos; and B2, which carries a tropical flavor while locking into an abstract, forward-moving groove. A lesser-known gem that boldly embraces electronics while maintaining clarity and sophistication throughout—well worth your attention.
