This is the second album by Japanese pianist Hiro Takada, who was active in the United States from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s, released in 1985. The album was recorded in Los Angeles in 1984 by a quintet featuring American musicians Bobby Sheppard (soprano sax, tenor sax, flute), Joe Correro (drums), and Mike Turner (percussion), joined by Japanese bassist Yasuhisa Akutsu. It includes covers of compositions by leading American pianists such as Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea, as well as two original pieces by Takada rich in ethnic flavor. A hidden gem of contemporary jazz, the album is filled with a sense of spirituality and features a bright sound that resonates beautifully in the dry West Coast air. Highly recommended.
