Dutch jazz flutist Chris Hinze, who has produced many beautiful and euphoric works ranging from ethnic new age jazz to meditative jazz, released this album in 1974 as the first installment of the "Super Session" series in which he collaborated with famous Japanese traditional musicians. This album features a duet with shakuhachi player Hozan Yamamoto, who pushed Japanese classical music to the next stage. Hinze, who was impressed by Hozan's performance at a concert with the koto player Shinichi Yuize, asked Hozan to join the session and it was realized. All of the songs are original compositions by Hozan and Hinze, and you can feel Hinze's intuitive sense of harmony with the Japanese scale melody played by Hozan's shakuhachi throughout this masterpiece of Japanese ethnic jazz. The 20-minute session B1 is also worth listening to.
