This is the second album released in 1983 by the group Impetus, which consisted of four Swiss musicians, Agnes Baumeler (violin, ss, recorder), Jurg Burkhardt (as), Marco Kappeli (ds), and Thomas Durst (b), along with John Wolf Brennan (p) from Ireland. Impetus, active in the minor jazz scene in Europe, left behind only two albums. This lesser-known gem showcases a highly sophisticated contemporary jazz sensibility, with a crossover taste that incorporates elements of pastoral Western European folk music into the format of bop. If you're a fan of European ethnic jazz, this is a must-listen.
