This is the first and only analog release by French composer and pianist Jacques Bouniard, known for his versatile work spanning jazz, rock, and pop since the late 1970s. Released in 1986, this debut leader album features a sextet lineup including drummer Joel Allouche, who has played with Paolo Damiani's group and the Dutch jazz group Reflexionen, and reed player Michel Marre, known for collaborations with Archie Shepp and Mal Waldron. The album presents contemporary modal jazz with a cool, beautiful tension reminiscent of ECM's Scandinavian artists. Highlights include A3, where a bossa-inspired rhythm section provides a breezy foundation for the delightful interplay of flute and piano, and B1, which begins with an ethereal muted trumpet solo accompanied by organic percussion before transitioning into a thrilling section driven by tabla's ethnic beats.
