This is the only solo album left by German guitarist Jan Rigo, who was also involved with the Ars Nova Ensemble Nurnberg organized by electroacoustic/experimental music composer Klaus Hashagen. Released in 1982, it features members of the Bhakti Jazz group, known for their ultra-obscure avant-garde jazz album from 1980, along with other minor musicians from Germany. The album offers a contemporary jazz sound typical of the music scene in Germany during that time, ranging from emotionally expressive renditions like A5, where Thelonius Monk's "Round Midnight" is delicately played on semi-acoustic guitar and bass, to swinging tracks like B2, featuring scat singing by Lisa Dawson. Tracks like B4 showcase graceful ensembles of guitar and violin, while others delve into avant-garde sessions blending jazz and contemporary music. The gentle texture of the guitar solo on B3 is also lovely. Highly recommended.
B2: Blues for Emil
B4: West Turn
