This album by the Japan Percussion Ensemble was produced to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the founding of CBS/Sony in Japan. Kazuyoshi Akiyama, the conductor of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and the president of the Japan Conductors' Society, conducted the album, which features "Nr. 9 Zyklus" by Karlheinz Stockhauzen, "Ionisation" by Edgar Varese Toccata" by Karlheinz Stockhauzen, "Ionisation" by Edgar Varese, "Canzona Da Sonare No.1" by Shinichi Matsushita, and other famous Japanese contemporary musicians such as Shinichi Matsushita, Yuji Takahashi, and Yasunori Yamaguchi. I especially recommend Edgar Varese's "Ionisation," in which the sounds of various percussion instruments sharply and disastrously fill the space. The sound quality is very good, with high quality cutting by Neuman's SX 68 cutting machine, which was used by CBS/Sony at that time.
