Released in 1985 on the label run by Peter Baumann — an original member of Tangerine Dream who was based in the US during the 1980s — this album is by violinist Jerry Goodman. Goodman is best known for his work with the Mahavishnu Orchestra, led by John McLaughlin and Jan Hammer, but on this album he performs everything himself, including violin, guitar, mandolin, percussion, and synthesizers. The result is a fantastical and futuristic new age electronics work that seems to merge contemporary music with progressive rock. The composition and sound production of A1 also carry a sense of minimalism reminiscent of Philip Glass.
