An album released in 1978 by American saxophonist Jimmy Forrest, who played with Jay McShann’s band (which also featured Charlie Parker in the early 1940s) before moving on to orchestras led by Andy Kirk and Buddy Morrow. In the 1950s, Forrest formed his own band and recorded leader albums for labels like Prestige and New Jazz. This album compiles 11 tracks recorded between 1951 and 1953, including the previously unreleased track A2 and selections A4, B2, B5, and B6 from Forrest’s debut leader album, Jimmy Forrest’s Night Train, released in 1955. Highlights include his sultry, richly toned blues tunes, where he plays the melody with a seductive flair. A3, with its deep room echo, is particularly outstanding. This is the original U.S. pressing, marked "Stereo" on the label.
A3: Sophisticated Lady
A5: Bolo Blues
