John Cage / Steve Reich
Three Dances & Four Organs

John Cage's "Three Dances for Two Amplified Prepared Pianos" from 1945 and Steve Reich's "Four Organs for Four Electric Organs & Maracas" from 1970 are combined on this 1973 release. Michael Tilson Thomas, Ralph Grierson, Roger Kellaway, Tom Raney, and Steve Reich himself participated in the performance of this historic gem. Side A features two prepared pianos played by Michael Tilson Thomas and Ralph Grierson, and you can't help but be drawn into a series of indeterminate rhythms. side B, featuring Steve Reich, is, of course, a typical Reich-style minimalist piece, with four electronic organs creating shifts and moirés. This is the Japanese pressing with very good sound quality.
