An album released in 1963 by the indisputable jazz giant John Coltrane, who transitioned from Sheets of Sound to Spiritual Free. Tracks A1/B1 are live recordings from the Village Vanguard in New York in 1961, A2 was recorded in 1962, and B2 in 1963. In addition to the classic quartet with McCoy Tyner (p), Jimmy Garrison (b), and Elvin Jones (ds), Eric Dolphy (b-cl) and Reggie Workman (b) join in A1, while Roy Haynes (ds) participates in B2. Delving deeply into the modal approach inherited from Miles Davis, Coltrane integrates Eastern scales that intrigued him at the time, revealing a more avant-garde tendency than in previous works. The spirituality that connects to the world of the historic masterpiece "A Love Supreme," released the following year, is evident. This is a reissued US edition digitally remastered and released in 1987.

A1: India
B2: After the Rain
