A 1984 album by Kip Hanrahan, one of the key figures in New York’s underground jazz scene. Backed by an exceptional group of musicians including Arto Lindsay, David Murray, Steve Swallow, Peter Scherer, and Jack Bruce, Hanrahan develops a distinctive ethno-jazz groove throughout the album, blending Afro-Cuban and Latin elements with his own unmistakably urban sensibility. Highlights include B1, an adult-oriented vocal track filled with a sophisticated urban atmosphere, and B4, an abstract Latin jazz piece directly connected to the spirit of New York loft jazz. The compositions and performances remain remarkably fresh and refined, with virtually no sense of age. An outstanding album from start to finish.
