The only album recorded in 1979 by Mallet Connection, a group led by German vibraphonist Wolfgang Lackerschmid, known for his participation in Head, Heart + Hands and collaborations with Chet Baker, was released on the Sandra label. The lineup includes renowned musicians such as Wolfgang Engstfeld (sax), Christof Lauer (sax), Ed Kroger (p), Peter Bockius (b), and Peter Weiss (ds), all of whom are also recognized for their work with groups like Jazztrack and Changes, as well as collaborations with Michel Herr. This outstanding album of European contemporary jazz carries on the post-bop tradition. Highlights include A1, where lively samba rhythms provide a backdrop for the saxophone and marimba to weave buoyant melodies, and A3, the title track, where a gentle waltz beat creates a moody, nocturnal atmosphere reminiscent of misty night fog.
