Singer Mari Kaneko, who debuted in 1972 with Smoky Medicine led by guitarist Char, formed her own group, Mari & Bux Bunny, in 1974, featuring top Japanese musicians Mitsuo Nagai (g), Hiroyuki Namba (keys), Yoshihiro Naruse (b), and Hidetoshi Hashimoto (ds). Their first album, released in 1976, is remarkable for its arrangements and performances. The tight and groovy rhythm section, combined with cosmic synthesizers and electric piano, highlights Kaneko's powerful and emotional vocals, making it one of the finest groovy rock albums in Japan. The edgy sound is also superb. Highly recommended.
