Featured in the first edition of the guidebook obscure sound, this superb solo album was released in 1980 by Brazilian drummer Mário Negrão, known for his session work with a wide range of artists including Baden Powell, Marcos Valle, and Chico Buarque. The album brings together numerous highly skilled Brazilian musicians, including Nivaldo Ornelas on flute and tenor saxophone, Mauro Senise on flute, soprano saxophone, and alto saxophone, and Zé Carlos on flute, soprano saxophone, and tenor saxophone. Every composition was written by Negrão himself. Highlights include A1, where effective flute solos soar high above an aggressively explosive rhythm section and powerful brass ensemble, and B5, where a spacey unison passage from guitar and synthesizer rises weightlessly over a light samba rhythm. A wonderful album filled throughout with open, tropical crossover jazz.
