This is a 1983 album by Marion Brown, an American jazz saxophonist who was at the forefront for a long time, from the 1960s to 2000. The quartet with Dave Burrell (p), Gon Mizuhashi (b), and Wallen Smith (ds) is joined by a live recording of a concert at Hirosaki Civic Hall in Aomori Prefecture in 1979. The band performed a wonderful performance of numbers selected from famous albums produced in Japan, such as A1 from "November Cotton Flower" released in 1979, A2 from "Soul Eyes" also released in 1979, and B2 that decorated the opening of "Awoforora" released in 1976, all with a calm tension but with a deep spirituality. Brown's music is really good this time of year. Highly recommended.
