Released in 1974, this album by American soul singer Marlena Shaw came after her two recordings for Chicago’s Cadet label in the 1960s and her subsequent move to Blue Note, where she left behind a series of highly acclaimed works. Produced by David Bell, one of the key figures behind Blue Note’s crossover era alongside David Axelrod and Larry Mizell, the album features a stellar cast of top musicians including Chuck Rainey on bass, Harvey Mason on drums, David T. Walker and Larry Carlton on guitars. Highlights include A5, a groovy and mellow interpretation of a classic also famously sung by Roberta Flack, and B3, a superb sweet soul number filled with restrained yet deeply rising emotion. Blending the essence of soul, jazz, funk, and blues with beautifully polished production, this is one of the finest rare groove classics of the era. This is the Japanese pressing released by King Records in 1978. Highly recommended.
A1: You, Me And Ethel
A5: Feel Like Makin' Love
B3: Loving You Was Like A Party
