Released in 1978 on the legendary Three Blind Mice label, this is a superb album by the Masaru Imada Quartet, led by Masaru Imada, one of Japan’s most internationally revered jazz pianists. Featuring Mitsuaki “Mitch” Furuno on bass, Takuji Kusumoto on drums, and Yuji Imamura on percussion. The title track “A2” is a standout, with its beautiful acoustic piano lines set against wonderfully organic percussion, while B1 is pure bliss, driven by open, spacious drumming and percussion in the back, a gently grooving bass line, and luscious electric piano that floats with an irresistibly mellow touch. Filled with an organic atmosphere comparable to Pharoah Sanders’ masterpiece Thembi, this is a top-tier Japanese mellow jazz groove / spiritual jazz album. Highly, highly recommended. This is the 1982 pressing from Trio Records’ TBM Remember ’70s Series, featuring PCM digital recording and newly updated cutting.
A2: Remember of Love
B1: Sea Weeds
B2: Little Step
