The quartet consists of Sergio Gistri (tp,fh), Nicola Vernuccio (b) and Stefano Bambini (dr). (dr) on Splasc(h) Records, one of the leading labels in Italian contemporary jazz since the 1980s. This is contemporary jazz with a modern flavor, such as A1, which opens with a guitar solo that sounds like a berimbau and develops into smoky modal jazz, and B2, which is an atmospheric bossa jazz number with a mystic air. The deep spiritual sound reminiscent of the style of Jan Garbarek or Enrico Rava in ECM is very cool. (Chee)
