A superb 1978 album by pianist Nelson Ayres, known for his work with Astrud Gilberto as well as his appearance on Airto’s Free. The album was released as part of the MPBC (Música Popular Brasileira Contemporânea) series, which introduced contemporary Brazilian artists from the late 1970s through the early 1980s. Highlights include A2, where horns and piano intertwine with an intensely grooving rhythm section and a colorful array of percussion; A3 and B1, featuring exhilarating free-form interplay between wah-wah guitar and horns over funky rhythms; and the highly danceable B2, driven by breezy vocals and buoyant piano. A wonderfully colorful and tropical set of Brazilian crossover music rooted in jazz.

A1: Mientras
A3: Fanfarra E Farra
B1: Dois Tempos
