This is the debut leader album released in 1991 by Danish bassist Niels Ryde, who has been active since the mid-1980s and has also played in groups like the Mikael Zacho Trio and Jon Hemmersam's ensemble. At the time, he was a rising star in the Danish jazz scene, and the album features contributions from young musicians, as well as guest appearances by John Tchicai on two tracks. The album transcends swing, bebop, modal jazz, and free jazz with a fresh perspective, boldly incorporating synthesizers, samplers, and programming to showcase cutting-edge crossover jazz throughout. It also incorporates ethnic flavors, creating a unique fusion of styles. You can really feel the groove of that era in this music.
