This is an album of traditional music recorded in the Caribbean by Reiko Shima, an ethnomusicologist who also works as a travel writer and documentary filmmaker, who travelled to the Caribbean islands to record the music. Side B features various styles of steel drumming played in countries such as Jamaica, St Vincent and Antigua. The content gives a sense of the spread of African music and Negro rhythms, as well as the culture of percussion instruments, which are very much a part of religion and life. The whole series is very interesting and should be checked out.
