Ornette Coleman, the father of free jazz and a major influence on Don Cherry and many other musicians, released this album in 1968. This is a live recording of a concert held at Fairfield Hall in Croydon, England in 1965. Side A is a rare performance with The Virtuoso Ensemble, an chamber orchestra, and offers a firsthand look at Coleman's ambitious efforts to bring jazz into the realm of contemporary music. On sides B, C, and D, Coleman performs with David Izenzon (b) and Charles Moffett (dr). The trumpet performance is also an experience that strongly reflects Coleman's influence on Don Cherry.
