This album is part of Nonesuch Explorer Series, which features performances by Palghat Raghu, a master of the South Indian drum mridangam, with violin by V.V. Subramaniam and tambura by Sarota. Palghat Raghu's fine and taut mridangam rhythms are layered with violin and voice to create a beautiful ensemble with a unique atmosphere that is different from North Indian classical music. The uplifting atmosphere of the middle and latter half of the A-side is particularly wonderful.
