Papa Wemba is a Congolese singer and songwriter who began his career in 1969 with Zaiko Langa Langa, and after leaving the group, he led his own group, Viva La Musica, which gained international recognition in the 1980s with the wave of the world music movement. This album was released in 1986. Although her base of operations still seems to be the Congolese capital of Kinshasa, Papa Wemba's melodic sense, vocalization, and sound production have become much more sophisticated since her mid-80s work. The two songs on the B-side in particular are Papa Wemba at his peak in world music. It feels good.
