Released on ECM in 1979, this was the second album by the original lineup of the Pat Metheny Group, led by Pat Metheny, unquestionably one of the world’s foremost guitarists. The group also features Lyle Mays on keyboards, Mark Egan on bass, and Dan Gottlieb on drums. Recorded that same year at Long View Farm in Missouri, often described as one of the most beautiful recording locations in the world, the album was produced by Metheny himself, with Manfred Eicher serving as executive producer. At this stage, Metheny had not yet introduced the guitar synthesizer that would later become one of his signature instruments, instead playing six- and twelve-string guitars. The electronic dimension is provided by Mays through his Oberheim synthesizer and autoharp. Throughout the album, a finely detailed and beautiful world of sound unfolds like dazzling sunlight cascading and sparkling through the air. The distinctive musical vision of the Pat Metheny Group can already be enjoyed here in full. Original German pressing.
