This is an album released in 1968 by Roland Kirk, an American multi-instrumentalist who mastered several reed instruments such as saxophone, flute, and clarinet, and had a successful career since the mid-1950s. The album features a one-horn quartet with Ron Burton on piano, Steve Novosel on bass, and Jimmy Hopps on drums, with Dick Griffith joining on trombone for one track only. The album opens with the sound of a baby's voice, leading into the delightful and lively melody and rhythm of A2, which is incredibly enjoyable. Other standout tracks include the organic jazz of A4, where the flute and piano sway gently amidst a languid floating sensation, and B1, which starts with ethnic percussion and horn sounds resembling animal cries before unfolding dramatically. These tracks showcase Kirk's distinctive style of organic jazz. The album was reissued in the US on the Atlantic Jazzlore label in 1982.
A2: A Laugh for Rory
A4: Fingers in the Wind
