Centered around Swiss saxophonist Urs Leimgruber—known for his participation in Christy Doran's group and collaborations with musicians like Barre Phillips—Reflexionen is a jazz quartet album released in 1984, featuring Don Friedman (piano), Bobby Burri (bass), and Joel Allouche (drums and percussion). The album opens with a sophisticated, extended piece (Track A1), where soft-touch piano and soprano saxophone gracefully dance together. The track is marked by a sense of gentle elegance, reminiscent of ECM's style, even while exploring free-form improvisation. Notable, too, is Track B2, an ethnic jazz piece with tabla rhythms that evokes the sound of Oregon, adding another beautiful layer to this refined contemporary jazz work.
