Rimona Francis
Rimona Francis
Universal Jazz (Germany) 2001
MPS 15.508 (LP) Reissue, heavy vinyl, coated jacket, postcard
sleeve : EX (slight creasing on coating)
media : EX/EX+ (some slight crackling noise in parts, A1: one light scuff mark that does not affect playback)
This is the only studio recording by German female singer Rimona Francis, released by MPS in 1978, and it is undoubtedly a monumental work of scat jazz groove. The musicians backing her are also a formidable lineup: Leszek Zaldo (ss, ts, ft), Jasper Van't Hof (p, og, synth), Barry Finnerty (g), Frank Tusa (b), and Buddy Williams (dr). Not only Rimona Francis's superb scat, but also the very tight and sharp rhythm section and Jasper Van't Hof's galactic PPG Synthesizer sound are incredibly awesome. Although known as a rare groove classic, it also has many progressive rock elements. It is a timeless, excellent album that never fades, and one I want to keep listening to across generations. Jasper Van't Hof's skill is simply amazing... This is a heavy vinyl edition released in 2001 as part of the MPS Original Vinyl Series.
A1: Bulgarian Beans
A2: Colours of Excitement
