From the early 1960s onwards, American pianist Roger Kellaway, known for his contributions to many jazz classics by artists like Charlie Mariano, Mark Murphy, and Clark Terry, both as a sideman and as a leader of his own groups, released an album in 1984 featuring the renowned soul jazz saxophonist Houston Person. Set against the backdrop of the electro boom, this album heavily incorporates synthesizers such as the Prophet 5 and Prophet 600, as well as the Linn Drum drum machine. From tracks that function on the dance floor to urban saxophone melodies floating over the music, and even featuring scratching, this album showcases a unique and eccentric electro sound that captures the essence of its time, making it a hidden gem worthy of recognition even today.
