This album features performances by Severino Gazzelloni, the Italian flutist who was the principal of the Rome Symphony Orchestra of the Italian Broadcasting Corporation and was known in the 1960s as "the patron saint of the avant-garde" and "the magician". The album is part of Trio Records' "Masterpieces of Contemporary Music" series and features a wide range of composers from the late 19th and early 20th century, including Claude Debussy, the futurist Edgar Varese, Ferruccio Busoni who is as well as painters and designers. The flute solo and duo with piano on side A are excellent, but the full B-side, "Hyperion III" for flute and orchestra by Bruno Maderna, is also worth a listen. The silkscreen printed sleeve is another nice touch to this series.
A3: Edgar Varese “Density 21.5 pour flute solo”
B1: Bruno Maderna “Hyperion III”
