This album, released in 1978, features the renowned sitar player Ravi Shankar and tabla player Alla Rakha, both of whom gained worldwide fame in the realm of North Indian classical music. They collaborated with the accomplished shakuhachi player Kusanya Yamamoto, who continued the tradition of Japanese classical music while also making significant contributions to contemporary music, and koto player Shin Miyashita. Inspired by the music of the koto and shakuhachi, Ravi Shankar composed five pieces on this album, choosing scales that resemble those used in Japanese music from within the framework of India's classical forms. The result is a magnificent performance where Indian and Japanese music blend seamlessly, creating a meditative sonic landscape. The improvised piece A3, based on the fundamental theme of the koto composition "Rokudan," is particularly intriguing. Highly recommended.
