American saxophonist Sonny Fortune, who worked with Elvin Jones and Mogo Santamaria from the late 60's and was a member of the electric/funk Miles Davis in the 70's, participated in such historic recordings as "Get Up with It", "Agharta" and "Pangaea". This album was released in 1976, features Charles Sullivan (tp), Kenny Barron (p), John Hicks (p), Wayne Dockery (b), Reggie Workman (b), Billy Hart (ds), Chip Lyles (ds) and Angel Allende (per). Straight-ahead hard bop is good, such as the song dedicated to Duke Ellington and Cannonball Aderley, but B1, with its lyrical melodies of organically dancing flutes and saxophones, and B2, with its effects-enhanced percussion and flutes that evoke an untamed jungle, are the best of the bunch. Very spiritual. Highly recommended.
