The Piano Choir, a piano septet featuring pianist Stanley Cowell, founder of the prestigious black jazz label Strata-East, along with Nat Jones, Hugh Lawson, Webster Lewis, Harold Mebern, Danny Mixon, and Sonelius Smith, released a double album in 1973. It is featuring live recordings from a concert held in 1972, shortly after the group's formation. The album is a masterpiece of cosmic piano ensemble, with acoustic piano at its core, electric piano, organ, African piano, percussion, and voice, and a sense of openness that seems to soar toward the heavens. No longer does it need to be described as jazz. Japanese promo.
