This is the 1977 album by the American pianist Steve Kuhn and his group Ecstasy, who gained recognition after graduating from Harvard University and studying innovative jazz alongside musicians like Ornette Coleman and Don Cherry at the Lenox School of Music. Kuhn further established himself in groups led by Kenny Dorham and John Coltrane. The album features Steve Slagle (soprano saxophone, alto saxophone, flute), Harvie Swartz (bass), and Michael Smith (drums). Throughout the album, Kuhn's virtuoso piano work, which can be considered his true forte, showers down like a beautiful cascade. The organic interplay of saxophones, flute, and percussion is incredibly pleasing, creating an exquisite and lyrical landscape throughout. It's a deep contemporary jazz album filled with beauty and emotion. Highly recommended.
