Released in 1965 on ESP-Disk’, this landmark album captures the visionary cosmic jazz of Sun Ra and His Solar Arkestra, led by the interstellar traveler himself, Sun Ra, who claimed to have come from Saturn. Longtime collaborators including John Gilmore, Marshall Allen, and Ronnie Boykins are featured prominently alongside other core members of the orchestra. On the back cover appears a poem titled Cosmic Equation, setting the tone for the music within. The performance unfolds chaotically yet organically, blending percussion and sound effects into a dramatic, otherworldly soundscape reminiscent of classic sci-fi films. It stands as a quintessential statement of Sun Ra’s avant-cosmic jazz vision. The second half of Side B, in particular, reaches truly stunning heights. This copy is the original 1966 stereo pressing.
