This is a masterpiece of a leader album released in 1978 by Takehiro Honda, a jazz pianist who started his career in the 1960s and emerged in 1973 when he joined Sadao Watanabe's group. Following on from his previous album "Another Departure", the album was recorded in New York and features Yoshiaki Masuo (g), Steve Jordan (dr), Anthony Jackson (b), Cornell Dupree (g) and Will Boulware (og). While the group Native Son, which was formed in the same year, was more of a cheesy fusion band, this album is an excellent example of cool jazz grooves with a funk feel and elements of reggae and blues. I highly recommend the NY Jazz Funk B1, with its laid back urban sound, and the B3, with its cool reggae and blues urban groove.
