Opus One (US) 1974
Number 22 (LP) Pink label, booklet
sleeve : EX (some very light stains)
media : EX-/EX- (some faint surface noise, a few light pops)

The Blackearth Percussion Group, a percussion group consisting of Garry Kvistad, Richard Kvistad, Allen Otte, and Michael Udow from Northern Illinois University in the United States, released their only album in 1974. From the prestigious label Opus One, known for numerous avant-garde/experimental works. It features Lou Harrison's "Fugue," Edward Miller's "Quartet Variations," Mario Bertoncini's "Tune," Peter Garland's "Apple Blossom," John Cage's "Amores," and William Albright's "Take That." All the performances are superb, but particularly noteworthy is A4, Peter Garland's composition "Apple Blossom" for two marimbas. The marimba's soft, floating drone, rich in overtones, is very pleasant and can be listened to as post-ambient music. It is reminiscent of "Hot Air" from Mkwaju Ensemble's masterpiece 2nd album "Ki-Motion." Comes with a small booklet featuring beautiful prints.
