Bamboo Magic
Atlantic (US) 1978
SD 19185 (LP) Promotional copy.
sleeve : VG+(DJS, SRW, WC, SPSE: small crack on side, wear on corner, some dirts.)
media : EX-/EX-(some slightly noise caused by slightly hairlines.)
Dutch flutist Chris Hinze, a key figure in the Netherlands jazz scene known for incorporating Eastern and Third World ethnic music elements into his work and for his excellent collaborations with traditional Japanese instrumentalists such as Hozan Yamamoto and Tadao Sawai, released this album in 1978. As the second album under the name The Chris Hinze Combination, following Sister Slick, this record features a series of superb groovy jazz-funk tracks. Opening with A1, a funky tune where a dry-toned flute and soulful female chorus ride over a mid-tempo rhythm section and emotional strings, the album also includes multiple pieces that feature female vocals, choruses, and lush string arrangements. The mellow, elegant slow numbers reminiscent of Larry Mizell Productions are also exceptionally satisfying—an overall outstanding work blending sophistication and deep groove.
